Rotary Club of Georgetown brings smiles to Toy Library

The Rotary Club of Georgetown recently brought smiles to the boys and girls of the Toy Library, located in the National Library. Members of the Rotary Club made their annual donation of a variety of toys to be used by the 3-14 age group.

After making the presentation, the members also engaged in a session of reading with the children.

“The National Library’s Toy Library commenced services in 1981, but was suspended in 1986 due to the deterioration of the toys and the Library was unable to replace many of the items due to limited financial resources,” the Rotary Club of Georgetown said in a statement.

However, with the help of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, Rotary District 7030, Scotiabank, other loyal sponsors and friends of Rotary, the Toy Library was reopened in 2016. Since then, the Rotary members have made it their duty to donate toys on a regular basis.

“On a weekly basis, approximately 100 children make use of the Toy Library where they can play and have some fun,” the Rotary Club of Georgetown added.

Peter Peroune, President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, said he is very appreciative of the fact that his fellow Rotarians and friends of Rotary once again fully supported the project.

“With this year’s theme from Rotary International “Rotary connects the World” we will continue to connect with our community to make a difference on the lives of citizens,” the statement concluded.
