Salima Wahaab and her eight children have something to smile about again and most importantly somewhere they can call home.

Wahaab of Number 60 Village, Corentyne Berbice, a 38-year-old mother had her life thrown into disarray when her house collapsed on May 27, 2019, but luckily, no one was inside at the time.

On August 1, B.M Soat Auto Sales, Prem’s Electrical, Air Services, Navin Construction and members of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club rebuilt the house.

Wahaab has been living at her in-laws and said it was not the best of circumstances due to the size of her family; she now welcomes a space to be with her children ages six, seven, eight, thirteen, fifteen, sixteen, eighteen, twenty and twenty-two.

“I am most thankful for the support. It has been months without having our own space but we are happy now and very happy for the support. We don’t know who they all are but we are poor people and this will help us a lot”, Wahaab stated.

Heading the construction was Navin Persaud, who stated it is a venture his team was happy to undertake; he hopes other persons in society who have the means, can do similar.

In July, Persaud’s team rebuilt a house in close proximity to Wahaab’s. It was the home of 20-year-old Urmilla Bujbhukan who’s abusive husband set it on fire on July 7.
