Sixteen-year-old Riana Toney of Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, Region 2, is in a state of shock following the announcement that she is the country’s top 2019 CSEC student.

Toney, who attended the Anna Regina Secondary School, told the News Room during a brief telephone interview that while she is happy with the results, she did not expect to perform this well.

The young lady wrote 19 subjects and secured Grade One passes in all.

“I am very much elated…A friend texted me a list of the students and that’s how I found out. I did expect to do well but not so well,” an elated Riana told the News Room.

She said she wants to become a microbiologist.

“I have a passion for microbiology and foreign subjects.

“I would love to thank Jesus Christ and my parents who worked very hard for me and my teachers who also assisted me a lot,” Riana said.

Another student from the Anna Regina Secondary School, Charrandat Naraine also made it into the top five students at CSEC. Narine attained 18 grade ones and one grade two.

Speaking with the News Room he said he expected to do well since he was consistent in his studies.

“I expected to do good,” he said.

Also 16-years-old, Naraine said he has not yet decided what career he wants to pursue.
