Construction commences on Health Ministry’s head office

The first phase of construction for the Ministry of Public Health’s head office is currently ongoing. The building is expected to be completed early next year.

Upon completion, the Head office will house the main offices within the Ministry of Public Health, such as Finance, Planning, Regional health care services and Chief Nursing Officers among others.

Currently the various departments are housed at different locations across Georgetown.

The former head office on Brickdam was destroyed by fire in 2009.

“We have had conversations with the Ministry of Finance letting them know of our concerns that we cannot flow as we suppose to flow because somebody has to come from Lamaha Street or Camp Street or come from Thomas lands,” Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence told the media Wednesday.

The building is being constructed in three phases at the same location as the Ministry’s Brickdam Office.

“The cost of it at this time I will not be able to say because we have had some issues with the structure in how the first drawings were done, so our consultants had to do some revision,” the Minister said.
