The Rotary Demerara team recently collaborated with various businesses and organizations to bring some much needed relief to two families of Number 60 village Berbice who lost their homes to unfortunate occurrences.

The organizations which contributed included the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, BM Soat Enterprise, Delco Ice Company, Prem’s Electrical, Navin’s Construction and Food for the Poor.

Twenty-year-old Urmilla Bujbhukan, known as Radha of Number 60 Village, and her two young children were left homeless after her husband, Bahadur Maniram, 22, arrived home drunk and set their wooden house afire on July 7th.

Prior to that, on May 27, Salima Wahaab, 38, and her four children of Number 60 Village, Corentyne Berbice were left homeless after their house collapsed. Wahaab lost her husband to suicide five years ago.

Before receiving aid from the Rotary Demerara team, both families were grateful when a few of the businesses named collaborated to provide resources to Navin’s Construction, which generously volunteered to rebuild houses for the two families.

The efforts to restore some normalcy to the lives of these tragedy-struck families reached a climax after the Rotary Demerara President, Hansraj Singh, and team organized for the families to be presented with mattresses, beds, school supplies and general household necessities. The team also worked over the course of three days to fully paint the new houses.

Singh said that the members of Rotary Demerara were happy to partner with the other organisations to make a difference in the lives of the two deserving families.
