Several city streets to be rehabilitated

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has added more roads within Georgetown to be rehabilitated.

According to the Department of Public Information, the additional roads were identified during a community engagement held at St. Sidwell Primary School on Friday evening, in which residents representing a cross-section of Georgetown’s neighbourhoods attended.

During the high-spirited discussion, the Public Infrastructure Minister, David Patterson pledged to ensure the city’s roads are enhanced. DPI listed the following streets to be rehabilitated.

Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence who chaired the meeting encouraged residents to brainstorm possible solutions to issues within their communities.

The Public Health Minister who is also the Chair of the largest party in the coalition Government –the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) –said that while the government may put forward solutions, residents may have a different proposal. As such, the minister encouraged the residents to voice their recommendations.

“This is a government for the people and by the people. We don’t want to always be talking to you, we want to hear from you because that is going to inform us in terms of our planning and in terms of our decision making,” stated Minister Lawrence.

Throughout the country, the government has hosted numerous community meetings with residents to identify issues which needed solutions.

The Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore, Minister of Citizenship, Hon. Winston Felix and Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Hon. Jaipaul Sharma were also in attendance and spoke with the residents at St. Sidwell Primary School.
