The Public Telecommunications Ministry and MACORP on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will allow persons to access free online technical training using MACORP’s software.

The signing took place at Industrial Supply of Guyana (ISG) at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

The agreement will allow Guyanese pursuing a career in the technical field to access MACORP’s world-accredited online training programme “Technicians for the Caribbean” free of cost.

Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes with Managing Director of MACORP Guillermo signing MOU

Prior to the signing, Minister of Public Telecommunications Catherine Hughes said the agreement is the beginning of a transformation in technological advancement and training at the community level.

“The technicians for the Caribbean programme allows an individual to sit at a computer with support and go through a series of interactive training models – all certified by MACORP. And the beautiful thing about this is that MACORP certifications are internationally recombined,” Minister Hughes stated.

The Minister noted that after a period of one year of being on the programme participants will have an opportunity to be enrolled in MARCORP’s work study programmes that offer weekly stipends and a strong possibility of employment with the company, once successful.

Managing Director of MACORP, Guillermo Escarraga, said that the company finds it important to engage in partnerships that empower young persons to pursue technical training.

“We hope this partnership reaps the benefits for the community and that we see the very much needed skillful Guyanese develop and prepare to tackle the challenges that we have ahead of us,” Escarraga stated.

After the signing, senior MACORP representatives indicated to Minister Hughes that the partnership will help to fight off the ever prevalent issue of unemployment and the challenges resulting from it.
