Days after Qatar signed an Air Services Agreement with Guyana, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced that a delegation from the Arab country will be visiting in the coming months.

“In the coming months, a delegation from Qatar will be visiting Guyana to explore business opportunities in the aviation sector to establish a presence in Guyana and to strengthen the Caribbean and Latin America network,” the GTA said.

Mr. Abdulla Nasser Turki Al Subaey, President of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Egbert Field, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority signed the Air Services Agreement on Tuesday last during the International Civil Aviation Organisation 40th General Assembly, Montreal, Canada.

The agreement will permit Qatar’s national carrier, Qatar Airways to operate any number of passenger and cargo flights. It will also permit Qatar Airways to have an operation centre in Guyana to fly to any country in the region and other regions as well.

Brian T. Mullis, Director of the GTA was quoted as saying “This is a welcomed relationship, which has the potential to improve international connectivity and boost the tourism sector as well.”

“With the recent international recognition Guyana has received, increased airlift from American Airlines and JetBlue, and improved connectivity to Europe through KLM and Trans Guyana Airways, we welcome the delegation from Qatar and hope to see continued growth in the options available for travellers to visit Guyana,” he added.

The agreement complements the more than 50 Air Services Agreements Guyana has established with other ICAO States for the development of airlift capacity and connectivity among member states, the GTA stated.

With its headquarters in Qatar, Qatar Airways is one of the world’s largest airline, operating a hub-and-spoke network and linking over 172 international destinations across the world.

The cargo arm of the airline, Qatar Airways Cargo, is the world’s third largest international cargo carrier.

The GTA is a semi-autonomous governmental organisation responsible for developing and promoting sustainable tourism in Guyana through collaborations.
