Apoteri Village in Region Nine is now the latest indigenous village to have internet access.

Minister of Public Telecommunications Cathy Hughes visited a number of villages in Region Nine at the weekend distributing electronic tablets.

She noted that the Government has provided internet to 170 nursery, primary and secondary schools across the country.

Some of the communities visited included Apoteri, Surama and Fair View.

“We are providing the opportunity and now we want you to make sure you encourage your children to use the internet for the right reason,” the Minister said at Apoteri.

The smart classroom initiative and a smart TV will be implemented at the Apoteri primary school within a couple of months, according to Minister Hughes.

Persons from the Ministry will also be going into the village to train persons how to use a computer and a tablet.

Minister Hughes said that four years ago when telephone companies said it was too expensive to go into interior locations and provide telephone services, the government decided to provide internet service to as many communities in hinterland and remote areas as possible.

“We are making sure that we are purchasing a satellite dish and we are bringing internet to community and this internet is free.”
