ExxonMobil says supplies from Guyanese amounted to $36 billion

ExxonMobil Wednesday claimed that its operations in Guyana have so far sourced $36 billion in products and services from more than 600 Guyanese vendors and suppliers.

“Our ExxonMobil Guyana company is just that – a Guyanese company,” said Hunter Farris, Senior Vice President, Upstream Oil and Gas Deep Water, ExxonMobil.

Farris was speaking at the opening of the oil and gas exhibition and summit GIPEX at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown.

He said that the company is working to develop the local workforce over the coming years.

“So far, more than 3,400 people in Guyana have worked on our exploration and project activities directly, including more than 1,700 Guyanese,” Farris stated.

He said that since 2017, the company has more than tripled its local workforce and is continuing to build.

“As we look to the future, we can expect steady growth in Guyanese personnel employed by ExxonMobil Guyana,” Farris stated.

He indicated that this includes people who are in training programmes right now in Singapore, Canada and the United States.

“It’s exciting to help develop the future leaders of the industry from the ground up,” he stated.

Farris noted that Guyana is becoming increasingly connected to the world economy, and the oil and gas sector is a key part of that process.

He said that every new employee at ExxonMobil Guyana gets a keychain with the company’s purpose printed on it, which says “We are here to partner with Guyana to develop its oil and gas resources in a responsible and mutually beneficial way.”
