The first Kenyan High Commissioner to Guyana, Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri was officially accredited on Wednesday by President David Granger at the Ministry of the Presidency.

In brief remarks, the High Commissioner said he will work to foster a closer relationship with Guyana particularly in the areas of trade and investment.

The High Commissioner said his appointment marks the start of a new chapter to bring the two countries closer together for the benefit of the people.

The High Commissioner also noted that there is a need to establish new platforms in Caribbean countries through the promotion of interregional cooperation, like CARICOM.

Guyana and Kenya established diplomatic ties in December 1970 and have since enjoyed cordial relations.

Meanwhile, President Granger noted that Guyana can benefit from Kenya’s experience in wildlife and eco-tourism.

“Kenya’s success in its conservation of wildlife is acknowledged internationally. Guyana can learn from Kenya’s experience and expertise in developing its ecotourism potential and improving wildlife management and protection policy,” the President said.

The President also referred to Kenya’s National Climate Change Action Plan which seeks to address the options for a low-carbon, climate-resilient development pathway.

The President said the adverse effects of climate change are national priorities for both countries.
