The world’s largest floating book fair aboard the MV Logos Hope vessel docked at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation wharf in La Penitence, Georgetown and is now officially opened to the public.

The vessel with international crewmembers will be docked here until December 10 and offers exclusive onboard events for people of all ages, in addition to its array of quality, affordable books.

From December 3 -7, the opening hours will be 10:00hrs to 21:00hrs, on December 8 from 14:00hrs to 21:00hrs and on December 9-10 from 12:30hrs to 20:00hrs.

Entrance fee is G$200 per person; adults 65 and over enter for free. Children under 12 years old enter for free but must be accompanied by an adult.

Captain of the vessel, Samuel Hills from Germany, addressed the media and guests at the opening ceremony Monday evening and noted that it is his first time visiting Guyana.

The Captain said he was always perplexed as to why Guyana was considered a Caribbean country but got his answer when he docked.

“[This] morning when I was greeting the Pilot at 6’o clock I knew why Guyana was Caribbean, we have sailed Latin [South] America and the Caribbean for the past two years and just the way you talk, the way you’re moving and the way you’re living is just Caribbean and I can see that now and it’s amazing,” Captain Hill said.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo greeted the crew on behalf of the Government and encouraged them to explore the urban and rural areas of Guyana.

“It is a beautiful city and if you have time to stay longer off the ship, go beyond to visit our countryside and our beautiful hinterland which is part of an Amazon rainforest, one of the biggest green lungs of the world,” Nagamootoo said.

Logos Hope offers an expanded selection of over 5,000 titles of books at affordable prices. The rest of the Visitor Experience deck is also open for the public to explore.

From the Welcome Area, which introduces the vessel through a short movie and interactive displays, to the International Café, which has ice cream, drinks and snacks for sale, there is something for everyone.
