Five Public Service Credit Union members get wish of $500,000

The Guyana Public Service Credit Union on Friday afternoon hosted a grand drawing ceremony for their inaugural “Make a Wish” promotion that saw five of its members walking away with a grand prize of $500,000 each

The drawing ceremony was held at the Guyana Public Service Credit Union’s head office on Hadfield Street, Georgetown.

Grace Lee and Debra Bamfield from the Ministry of Public Health, Mark Cyrus from Region 1, Roselyn Gill from the Ministry of Education, as well as Food for the Poor’s Odell Semple, were informed via telephone call that they were winners of the promotion.

Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Keith Scott, who was at the ceremony, pulled the first name from the rotisserie after delivering the opening address.

Minister Scott spoke briefly about the commitment of the GPSU to serving its aproximatley165, 000 members.

“What this union does is demonstrate initiative and it demonstrates a concern not only for its members but for what it can give to society by means of example,” Minister Scott said.

The promotion that was launched as a way of giving back to its loyal members of GPSU.

GPSU’S Public Relations Officer Paul Clarke told the News Room that those who were members of the Union for at least five years with an income range off 100,000 and below were able to enter the competition. Clarke said that the promotion attracted entries from approximately 600,000 members. However those who were not of good legal standing were excluded.

“I came today just after twelve and filled out the form jokingly and one of the members urged me to stick around so I stayed and this was the result; so I thank God,” Ministry of Health employee Debra Bamfield expressed.

“I come and hear that there was promoting and they told me the criteria; I’m working for under $100,000 so I applied, I’m very happy excited because I’m doing some work right now on my house,” Odell Semple told the News Room.

Minister Scott presented the winners with their cheques as a crew of well-wishers looked on.
