The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday inaugurated its Gender Affairs Committee Suggestion Box as part of its efforts to promote a safe and effective gender-inclusive workplace.

A press release from the Ministry stated that Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Karen Cummings lauded the initiative and noted that in keeping with the commitments of the Government of Guyana, the Ministry was fully committed to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

“The Gender Affairs Committee was established on February 25, 2019, in keeping with the provisions of the Constitution of Guyana and international commitments to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women, some of which include the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the 1995 Beijing Declaration on Women,” the release noted.

According to the Ministry, with the support of the Gender Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Social Protection, the committee works to facilitate and promote gender mainstreaming activities within the Ministry while eliminating gender inequality and creating an inclusive workforce.
