The Rotary Club of Georgetown on Sunday last successfully hosted a medical outreach at the Blake Primary School, targeting residents in communities along the East Bank of Essequibo.

The goals of this outreach, according to the Rotary Club, were to provide health care by professionals for free and to improve the primary health of the community outside of Georgetown by promoting health literacy, healthier lifestyles, and general well-being.

“The services provided by the medical team were pediatric, optometric, gynecological and cardiological care, general check-up including blood pressure and glucose testing. The outreach was well attended and the medical team received over 200 patients, including babies and children, and they prescribed medication where needed,” the Rotary Club of Georgetown said in a press release.

“A general observation from the medical team is that a lot of residents from that area suffer from high blood pressure, which is one of the concerning non-communicable diseases (NCD) in the Caribbean Region.”

Over 200 persons attended the outreach

The Rotary Club of Georgetown would like to express thanks the residents of the Blake community for positively responding to this medical outreach, and its corporate sponsors Continental Group of Companies, Survival, Farm Supplies Limited, Courts Optical, KD Enterprise Mr. Kissoon Dyal Singh, SSP International Services, Maggies Catering, the Ministry of Public Health and Medical Team headed by Dr. Mohanlall, Assistant Governor Renata Chuck A Sang, Rotarians and Rotaractors for making the event a success.

Rotary is an international non-profit organization, comprising business and professional persons united in service to the community under the motto “Service above Self.’

Rotary’s service is focused in six broad categories, namely Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Peace and Conflict Resolution and Economics and Community Development.
