Police officers injured during protest recovering

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Sunday reported that the five police officers who were injured during protest actions on the West Coast of Berbice are recovering and receiving all of the necessary counselling required.

The officers were injured on Friday while performing duties to quell protestors at Bush Lot, Bath Settlement and Cotton Tree Villages, West Coast Berbice.

Those injured were: Sergeant Punit Nuth Ibaran, W/Constable Shomeika Wickham, Constable Ron Grant, W/Constable Tussie Walleson and Constable Jafta Fraser.

On Saturday, Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ Ms. Maxine Graham, DSM along with the Commanders of Regional Police Divisions 5 & 6, Superintendent Yonette Stephens and Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus and also the Force’s Welfare Officer, Deputy Superintendent Jewel Hayles-Sullivan visited the ranks and presented them with hampers.

The injured ranks were assured by Deputy Commissioner Graham of the Administration’s fullest support in ensuring their complete recovery.

The team also wished the ranks a speedy recovery on behalf of the Commissioner of Police and ranks of the Force.

The GPF issued a call for the public to respect law enforcement officers as they perform their duties.
