Regional Health Officer (RHO) of Region Seven, Dr Edward Sagala has debunked rumours that the second case of the Coronavirus in Guyana surfaced in the mining town of Bartica.

A press release from the Ministry of Health Saturday noted that an employee of Aruwai Resort complained of flu-like symptoms this week and after medical checks, was self-quarantined.

“Her condition is improving,” Dr Sagala is quoted as saying in the press release.

The RHO clarified that the employee was never hospitalised because “she never displayed any of the classical signs” of COVID-19 after examination by Bartica Hospital medical officials.

COVID-19 signs and symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath.

As such, health authorities advise avoiding close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections; practice frequent hand-washing, especially after direct contact with ill people or their environment and avoid unprotected contact with farm or wild animals.

The RHO assured Barticians, including businesses that “there is no need to panic”.
