The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Guyana) is calling on the private sector to support national efforts to tackle the deadly Coronavirus by making quarantine more comfortable for patients, “such as reduced data and phone call charges so that persons can still be in touch with their loved ones; or donations of food, formula, toiletries and cleaners for less fortunate households.”

A statement from the Chambers Monday noted that the private sector should also offer alternative ‘work from home’ arrangements, engaging in sanitation exercises in all businesses and providing the tools for workers to engage in safe practices.

AmCham believes that more aggressive measures are needed at this time to tackle the spread of the virus.

“Amcham calls on the relevant Public Health authorities to follow the lead of our CARICOM neighbors, and other world leaders, in imposing strict travel restrictions and following the WHO guidelines on imposing quarantine.”

The Chambers said it is ready to assist the Public Health authority. Minister of Health, Volda Lawrence on March 14 said Guyana has four confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.

The three patients who have tested most recently positive have been identified as the husband of the 52-year old woman who died from the virus earlier this week, one of her children and another person living at their residence at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.
