Describing healthcare workers as the defence line against the battle with the Coronavirus disease, Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence on Wednesday called for an end to the stigmatization and discrimination of health workers.

“Our health workers, doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, PCAs, laboratory staff, ancillary and security staff who are battling the Coronavirus disease to keep us all safe at all our facilities across Guyana…are our first line of defence,” the Minister said.

The Minister said it is important especially during this pandemic that everyone work together and give overwhelming support to health workers.

“I now wish to make an appeal to all those who are bent on stigmatizing our health workers (refusal of entry to public transportation among others) to immediately put an end to this,” the Minister said sternly.

The Minister also acknowledged and commended the courageous efforts of health workers.

“The Ministry of Public Health is appreciative of your daily sacrifice to keep us all safe.”

It was also noted that health workers across all Regions are encouraged to make recommendations in the fight against this pandemic and submit to Regional Health Officers.
