Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence Friday announced that Guyana has now recorded 63 cases of the new Coronavirus, an increase of six new cases in less than 24 hours.

This total also represents the six persons who died; 283 persons have tested during the period of February 26-April 17 and of this number, 220 returned negative and nine have recorded.

Fifteen persons (15) are in institutional quarantine, 48 in isolation, and there are four persons in our COVID- 19 ICU.

Of the 63 positive COVID-19 cases, four are imported cases and the other 59 persons contracted the Coronavirus Disease in Guyana.

The confirmed cases in Region #4 represent 87.7 % with most cases in Georgetown.

“The 30 – 49 age group is where we have the highest number of positive cases, with a 4:1 ratio of males to females,” Lawrence said.

“Contacts of the persons tested positive based on information received and self-reporting are a part of our COVID-19 Surveillance follow up.

“I ask you to take note that our confirmed cases are climbing rapidly. For this week alone we have 18 positive cases. 18 positive cases my friends in one week.”
