Guyana gets US$475,000 from U.S. to help in fight against COVID-19

The United States Government will be releasing US$475,000 to Guyana to help in its fight against the deadly new Coronavirus.

A press release from the United States Embassy in Georgetown said the money will “address Guyana’s priority areas of laboratory diagnostics and systems strengthening and supplies, surveillance, infection prevention & control, and emergency operation centers.”

The U.S Government noted that the funds are part of a regional funding package of US$3,000,000 provided to support the current COVID-19 Response.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will coordinate with the Ministry of Public Health here and its regional partners to disburse “these funds rapidly and implement the activities.”

As of April 22, Guyana recorded 67 known cases of COVID-19, including seven deaths; Georgetown has been identified as the epicentre of the outbreak.
