The high-level CARICOM team to scrutinise Guyana’s vote recount is slated to arrive in Guyana tomorrow, Friday, May 1, reliable sources have confirmed to the News Room.

The News Room understands that the team will arrive on a chartered flight at 14:00h at the Eugene F Correia International Airport at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.

The National COVID-19 Task Force had granted approval for the chartered flight to land on the condition that the five-member team undergo a COVID-19 test in their respective countries.

The Guyana Elections Commission on Thursday conducted a one-day training for some 80 employees who will be part of the recount at the Arthur Chung Conference Center.

GECOM is awaiting the arrival of the CARICOM team before gazetting the order and announcing a date for the recount which is estimated to last for 25 days.

May 2 will mark two months since Guyanese cast their votes for a Government of their choice.

The results have since been tied up in legal battles which led to the recount.
