Several soldiers dead after explosion at Timehri army base

An explosion at the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) Camp Stephenson at Timehri, East Bank Demerara Thursday morning resulted in the death of at least three soldiers; another is in a critical condition and several others are injured.
Army ranks and residents in the area told the News Room that the explosion occurred at approximately 09:15h.
Regional Commander Simon Kurliegh confirmed that there was an incident but could not give further details.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
