48 Guyanese return from US; 73 US citizens depart

The second batch of Guyanese, 48 in total, returned home Tuesday from the United States of America.

The passengers returned from Miami, Florida on Eastern Airlines flight 182 which landed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at about 12:35hrs.

On its way out, the flight will be taking out 73 US citizens who were stranded in Guyana following the closure of local airports on March 17.

The first set of stranded Guyanese arrived from Miami on June 6. 

All arriving passengers must submit a repatriation form to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and along with negative COVID-19 tests no less than 48 hours before they travel.

All returning Guyanese are subject to a 7-day home quarantine upon return. During this period, none of the citizens will be permitted to leave their homes except to seek emergency medical services.

A Caribbean Airlines Flight was also approved to bring home stranded Guyanese from Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago. However, the flight, which was set for June 11, was cancelled as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs failed to submit the list of passengers to the airlines 48hrs before the flight was scheduled to depart.

The National Covid-19 Task Force has extended the nation’s COVID-19 emergency measures to June 17, 2020.
