UG’s Dr Lawrence Lewis wins Energy Globe Award 2020

Dr Lawrence Lewis, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry and the University of Guyana has been named a national winner of the Energy Globe Award.

According to the University, Dr Lewis won for his project dealing with the management and use of Acacia plantations on mined out sites as bio-energy plantations for improved livelihoods in mining communities.

The University noted that The Energy Globe Award is considered the most significant environmental award worldwide.

More than 2,500 projects aimed at protecting the environment were submitted by more than 180 countries around the world, the University stated.

The Energy Globe (The World Award for Sustainability) is presented annually to outstanding and sustainable projects in the area of environment and energy.

Awards are presented on the national and international levels for the 5 categories of Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth.

With more than 180 participating countries, the Energy Globe Award is today’s most renowned worldwide environmental award, the University stated.

The international recipients of each category are presented with their awards as part of a ceremony that is broadcast all over the world.

Dr Lewis has received special congratulations from the University’s top brass, including Chancellor Edward Greene, Pro-Chancellor Major General Retired Joseph Singh, Vice Chancellor Dr Paloma Mohamed-Martin.
