Regions 1 and 7 benefit from printed worksheets

Several communities in Regions One and Seven received printed worksheets from the Ministry of Education at the weekend.

The Ministry in a statement said in Region 1 Baramita, Matthews Ridge, Port Kaituma, Mabaruma and Moruca received the timely worksheets. While in Region 7 Imbaimadai, Kamarang, Paruima, Kaikan and Bartica received the print material. The worksheets cover work the students would have been doing had they been in the classroom and are for the nursery, primary and secondary levels.

During discussions with residents, parents, students and other community members the Education Minister, Priya Manickchand explained what the Ministry is going to ensure learning continues during this time.

The Minister explained that due to COVID-19 the education sector is greatly affected but learning will continue differently since schools are not yet cleared for physical re-opening.

In addition residents were encouraged to tune into their community radio stations for the Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) programme and also the Broadcast to Schools.

The Minister further said that a blended approach to learning has been adopted by the Ministry so communities without internet access, radio and television access will be engaged differently.

Residents also had the opportunity to share concerns and suggestions with the Minister.

The hinterland students now have worksheets for the next month and additional materials are currently being prepared to ensure students both in the hinterland and other communities are continuously engaged until schools reopen.
