CIOG schools excel at this year’s NGSA, CSEC exams

Two schools governed by the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) – the Al-Ghazali Islamic Academy (A.I.A) and the Meten-Meer-Zorg Islamic Academy (M.I.A) – have recorded stellar performances at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC).

“At this year’s NGSA exams both schools have excelled with the A.I.A being in the 1% and M.I.A scoring a 96% pass rate,” CIOG said in a statement on Friday.

Meanwhile for CSEC the schools also secured a 90% pass rate.

“It must be noted that both schools are populated by almost 40% by Orphans and Vulnerable children. Both examinations have seen children from the OVC Programs being in the 1%. These children receive a monthly stipend, back to school packages, shoes and clothing, medical assistance, transportation, lessons and school fees,” CIOG stated.

The students benefit from scholarships to pursue studies at the University of Guyana and some who have excelled are now doctors, nurses, accountants, engineers and lab technicians.

Currently there are approximately 300 orphans and vulnerable children attending both schools.

“The President, the Central Executives, Management and Staff, Principals and Teachers join in congratulating all these children that wrote the NGSA and CXC Examinations in 2020.”
