The Ministry of Education on Saturday installed a number of chalkboards in communities across Georgetown to engage students who do not have access to the internet or other learning materials.

The team led by Chief Education Officer Dr Marcel Hutson, teachers Leanchor Rowland and Caren Charles, Inspector Lisa Liza Ryce, Technical Faciltator Kerwyn Jacobs and District Education Officer Deborah Hutson visited the communities of East Ruimveldt, Albouystown, Rasville and Wortmanville to deliver education during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chalkboards were erected in the communities along with the distribution of learning materials to assist with education delivery, according to the Ministry in a short statement to the media.

The ministry has been distributing learning materials across the hinterland regions and has since moved this program to the coast in order to continue engaging students who are forced to stay at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry also broadcast various learning programs of the Guyana Learning Channel, E-Networks, various radio stations and some students are engaged on Zoom and Whatsapp.

Schools have been closed since March 17 as a result of the pandemic.

While efforts are ongoing to return to the classrooms, the Government last week said this may have to be done in phases starting with Grades 10 and 11 students who need to complete School Based Assessments for 2021.
