Following an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD), the Ministry of Health has dispatched its mobile testing units to the community and surrounding areas.

Diamond is the largest housing scheme on the East Bank of Demerara.

Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony, on Wednesday, said: “we have seen a spike in cases in Diamond and those surrounding communities, so we thought it’s important to get a better picture of what is happening with the epidemic in these communities and the way to know that is to do more testing in those communities.”

He was speaking during his daily COVID-19 update with the Department of Public Information (DPI). Dr Anthony explained that the Ministry has worked out a schedule to dispatch the units to the various regions “for us to get a sense of what is going on in these areas.”

Since the diagnosis of the first COVID-19 case on March 11, Region Four has recorded a continual increase in positive cases.

To date, the region has recorded 1,983 COVID-19 cases of an overall total of 4,245. The region has also recorded the majority of the 130 deaths.
