The new Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) representative to Guyana, Dr Luis Felipe Codina, on Friday presented his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd.

Dr Codina succeeds Dr. William Adu-Krow, who recently retired.

Dr Codina was appointed as the new PAHO/WHO representative in Guyana effective October 02, 2020; he is a national of Peru, who obtained both his medical degree (1982) and a diploma for specialisation in pediatrics (1985) from the Escola Paulista de Medicina, Brazil.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister Todd and Dr Codina held talks on mutual areas of interests including enhanced collaboration between Guyana and PAHO/WHO.

“The Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to the international public health agency for the collaborative efforts and technical support provided to Guyana’s COVID-19 Response Plan,” the statement added.

PAHO’s technical cooperation in Guyana was formalised in October 1967 with the establishment of a country office. Responsible for providing technical cooperation, the country office facilitates activities aimed at improving health conditions in Guyana.
