Over the past three days, a total of 72 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in St Cuthbert’s Mission –an Indigenous village in Region Four –moving the overall total cases in the community to 239.

This was disclosed by Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony during his daily COVID-19 update.

“I don’t think we have hit the peak as yet; maybe in another day or two so with more testing, we’ll probably see the cases going up,” the Minister said.

“So far the team [of health professionals] on the ground has been paying keen attention to what is happening and they will continue to do so,” he added.

He said the majority of the patients have mild symptoms while many are asymptomatic; those patients are isolated at home.

At the weekend, the Minister said a team from the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) was dispatched to the village to assist in sanitizing various areas.

“…so they have gone around and they have been talking to people and they have been doing sanitization,” he said.

There two doctors and a team of nurses which are in the community at all time to monitor patients.

The youngest patient is four years old and is among 30 children who tested positive so far.

The community is currently on a two-week lockdown as the Ministry of Health conducts mass testing.
