A total of 112 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in St Cuthbert’s Mission over the past two days, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony has revealed.

The Minister, in his daily COVID-19 update on Wednesday, reported that the indigenous community reached its peak early this week with 269 cases of the disease but now, it only has 157 active cases.

With 1,500 residents, St Cuthbert’s Mission on the West Bank of the Mahaica River in Region Four, proceeded on a complete lockdown on November 7 after the village health workers, three teachers and a village councillor tested positive.

“We constantly monitor and once people remain asymptomatic for ten days, we discharge them. A lot of people would have met the requirement and remain asymptomatic and so we…no longer consider them to be active,” the Minister said.

He said swabbing is continuing in the community while the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is providing hampers to those in need.

The CDC on Tuesday said it distributed 320 hampers to residents.

The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) is also assisting with sanitizing the homes of persons and surrounding areas.

With the number of active COVID-19 cases continually decreasing, the Minister is hopeful that the lockdown in St Cuthbert’s Mission can be lifted in the new week.
