Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 147 on Tuesday following the death of another Siparuta, Region Six resident, who passed away on Monday.

The Ministry of Health in a statement on Tuesday said the 87-year-old man died while receiving treatment at a medical facility.

This represents the 21st person to have died from the dreaded disease this month and the second resident to die from Siparuta. The first patient, an 89-year-old man, died on November 21 at the Skeldon Hospital. Siparuta has so far recorded 35 positive cases.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 35 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday from 353 tests. This means that there are now 5, 189 confirmed cases of the deadly disease.

The new cases were recorded in Region Ten with 15 new cases, Region Six recorded nine new cases while Region Four recorded eight new cases and Regions One, Three and Seven each recorded one new case.

There are 766 patients in home isolation, 72 in institutional isolation and seven patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The Ministry also recorded a total of 170 recoveries, taking the total to 4, 204.
