Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony on Friday said that he is pleased with the interest citizens are showing in the COVID-19 immunisation rollout, which has so far seen 15, 524 persons being vaccinated against COVID-19.

Notwithstanding, he believes more can be done. Minister Anthony who was speaking during his daily COVID-19 update said there are some communities he believes can do better.

One such place is Linden, Region 10. He explained that in order for more residents of the mining town to show more interest and be vaccinated, persons of influence who can strongly advocate and engage Lindeners should come forward and take the jab.

The Minister further noted that prior to the vaccine rollout, Linden was ranked high as an area that saw a number of severe cases and COVID-19 related deaths.

He reminded persons, however, that being vaccinated is still not mandatory but it does protect them from experiencing the severity of COVID-19.

In hopes of receiving another batch of vaccines soon, the Minister said the Ministry will soon make persons 50 and above eligible.

Currently, only frontline health workers, persons above 60, and key government and Parliament officials have received the jab.
