Miguel Wong, Kaysan Ninvalle and Thuraia Thomas are among some of talented players the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is looking to enlist to begin training for the Junior Pan American Games to be held in Cali, Colombia, between September 9-19, 2021.

After a promising, but unsuccessful outing for Guyanese players at the Olympic Qualifiers earlier this month in Argentina, the GTTA is now focused on preparing a team to qualify for the Junior Pan-Am Games.

However, GTTA President, Godfrey Munroe, explained that given the prevailing COVID-19 situation, there is a strong possibility that Guyanese players may be awarded spots based on world rankings.

The qualifiers are slated to be held in June in Costa Rica.

Munroe explained that Jonathan VanLange, Kaysan Ninvalle, Miguel Wong, Collin Wong, Jamal Nicholas, Terrence Rauch, Thuraia Thomas, Yudestir Persaud, Neveah Clarkson, Akira Watson, Crystal Melville, Jasmine Billingy and Samara Sukhai are some of the names on the proposed training squad.

“When we write them and they express an interest in participating in the preparation and qualification trials and the selection process we may have, then we can finalise those positions once we agree.”

The Games is a forthcoming international multi-sports event for athletes aged 18 to 21 in the Americas, organised by Panam Sports.
