Three additional COVID-19 deaths; 88 new cases

Three additional persons have died from the disease – COVID-19 – taking the total number of deaths recorded since March 11, 2020, to 385 while 86 deaths have been recorded in the month of May alone.

The latest fatalities, according to the Ministry of Health, are a male and a female, ages 65 and 71 respectively, who died on May 28, 2021 while receiving care at a medical facility.

The third death which occurred one day earlier on May 27, 2021, is a 58-year-old female. All three persons who died are from Region #4 (Demerara Mahaica).

Already, there have been 86 deaths in the month of May, making this the deadliest month of the pandemic. April 2021, was previously the deadliest month with a total of 66 deaths.

In addition to the new deaths recorded, 88 new people were infected with COVID-19 over a 24-hour period.

This means that 16,910 people have been infected with the disease since March last year.

The new cases were recorded in Region One (one case), Region Two (six cases), Region Three (15 cases), Region Four (33 cases), Region Five (four cases), Region Six (11 cases), Region Seven ( four cases) and Region Eight (one case).

Importantly, there are also 23 people in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which treats those infected individuals who are severely ill. There are also 103 people in institutional isolation, 1,996 are in home isolation and five in institutional quarantine.
