Two remanded for murder of taxi driver

Two men were on Wednesday remanded to prison for the murder of 53-year-old taxi driver, Kenrick Trim, whose body was dumped at the end of Cul-de-Sac Street Block 1 Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) last week.

Kenty Bacchus called ‘Trini,’ a 34-year-old welder of Water Street, Kingston, Georgetown, and Seyon James called ‘Lil Alfey,’ a 25-year-old fish vendor of Laing Avenue, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Roshelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court, ECD.

The men were not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on June 30, 2021, at Ogle, ECD, they murdered Trim of Belfield Housing Scheme, ECD.

Magistrate Liverpool remanded the duo to prison and adjourned the matter to August 6, 2021.

The court heard that on the day in question, Bacchus and James were at a Snackette located at Carmichael Street purchasing something to eat.  Subsequently, Bacchus flagged down Trim’s taxi and requested to be taken to a location along the East Coast of Demerara.

It is alleged that while in the vicinity of Ogle, James who was seated in the back seat, began to choke Trim and caused him to faint. It is further alleged that the duo stabbed Trim several times about his body and relieved him of his cell phone and gold jewellery.

Trim was found lying motionless in the grass at the end of Cul-de-Sac Street. According to a police report, Trim’s body appeared to have been dumped from his silver-grey Toyota Premio motorcar, which was parked a short distance away from where the body was discovered.

Based on information received, the police went to the home of Bacchus and found Trim’s cell phone in his possession. Bacchus was arrested, and under caution, he allegedly admitted to the crime.  He, however, told the police that it was his accomplice, James who killed Trim. His confession led to the arrest of James.
