Reg. 9 REO arrested for shooting woman to abdomen

The Regional Executive Officer of Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), Karl Singh is currently in police custody as investigators probe a shooting incident on Tuesday night.

Police said he is accused of shooting a woman to her abdomen just before midnight in the Commercial Zone of Lethem Central, Region Nine.

The woman is identified as 25-year-old Gladys Emmanuel

Singh, 33, was reportedly in the company of the woman in his motor pickup when he shot her.

She was taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital by him where an immediate surgery was performed and her condition is now regarded as stable.

Police have been unable to interview the victim due to her condition.

Singh was later arrested and escorted to Lethem Police Station where his licensed firearm was seized and lodged.
