Police in Berbice are investigating an incident in Betsy Ground, East Canje where the vehicles of a popular businessman was set on fire by an unidentifiable male on Tuesday night.

Doodnauth Moses called ‘Chenick’, 46, told police he parked his vehicles – motor bus PPP 391 and car PSS 1113 – on the eastern side of the premises (on Betsy Ground road parapet near his supermarket) while his canter truck GWW 3612 was parked on the northern side.

Moses said at about 20:00 hrs on the day in question he closed and secured his business place and headed to the upper flat of his building in the company of his family when he noticed on one of his cameras that his vehicles were on fire.

He said he armed himself with his licensed firearms and ventured to the front of his yard where he discharged four rounds from his shot gun and four from his .32 pistol but the suspect had already escaped.

The New Amsterdam Fire Service were subsequently summoned to the scene but the fire was already extinguished by the time they arrived.

The surveillance footage shows when the suspect doused the vehicles with gasoline and set it on fire using a match.

    Investigations are ongoing.
