An emergency medical responder was slapped with a number of traffic charges on Friday when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after he overtook double lane traffic on Mandela Avenue in Georgetown on Wednesday.

Police said Devon Nestor, who is attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, was charged with four counts of dangerous driving, one count of failing to give right of way, one count of failing to stop when directed by police and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He pleaded not guilty to all seven charges; he was granted $60,000 bail for two counts of dangerous driving and was placed on self-bail for the other offences.

The matter is adjourned to September 30, 2021. Police Headquarters revealed that Nestor was the driver of PMM 1760 when he overtook on a double lane on Mandela Avenue in Georgetown on September 1.

Police said he was signalled to stop by a Police Constable but did not and continued to proceed in the direction of the East Bank of Demerara. He was followed by the Police Constable and was further signaled to stop with the use of a siren and lights. Again, Nestor did not stop.

He eventually stopped in Eccles and was arrested.
