A four-year-old boy from Region One (Barima- Waini) is among six more COVID-19 deaths, the Ministry of Health said on Thursday.

Three men, two women and the four-year-old boy all died on October 13. Of these six deaths, only one person was fully vaccinated; the others were not.

This increases Guyana’s total death toll to 857 and moves October’s death toll to 58.

The News Room understands that the young boy also had dengue fever and presented with shortness of breath; he was transferred from Region One to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment but died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, 159 new infections were recorded from 1,007 PCR tests, increasing Guyana’s total infections to 34, 132 since the first case in March 2020.

Those cases were recorded in Region Two (20 cases), Region Three (31 cases), Region Four (81 cases), Region Five (nine cases), Region Six (seven cases), Region Seven (eight cases) and Region 10 (three cases).

Additionally, there are 32 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 126 are people in institutional isolation, 3,613 are in home isolation, and 23 people are in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, a total of 29,504 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
