    At the 2021 sitting of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE), the performance of Guyana’s students was marginally higher than the rest of the region. In Guyana, 88 per cent of the CAPE candidates attained acceptable Grades One to Five passes as opposed to the Caribbean’s 87 per cent pass rate.

    This was announced on Thursday morning by the Director of Operations at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), Dr. Nicole Manning. She was speaking at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre at Liliendaal, Georgetown where the results for this year’s CSEC and CAPE examinations are being announced.

    Importantly, Dr. Manning also announced that 100 per cent of Guyanese candidates received the acceptable Grades One to Five passes in 16 units.

    For context, at CAPE, Grades One to Five are considered the passing grades; Grade One is the highest ranking.

    Below is Guyana’s performance in the 2021 CAPE exams:

    • Caribbean Studies 92 per cent of candidates attained acceptable grades one to five
    • Communication Studies -97 per cent attained acceptable grades one to five
    • Sociology Unit 1 – 96 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Sociology Unit 2 – 96 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Law Unit 1- 95 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Law unit 2 -96 per cent attained  acceptable grades
    • Integrated Mathematics – 80 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Pure Mathematics Unit 1- 59 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Pure Mathematic 2 – 75 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Chemistry Unit 1 – 84 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Chemistry Unit 2 – 95 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Biology Unit 1 – 90 per cent attained acceptable grades
    • Biology Unit 2 – 97 per cent attained acceptable grades
