The Ministry of Health, through the office of the Chief Medical Officer (ag) Dr. Narine Singh, has granted travel exemptions for partially vaccinated Guyanese to travel back to Guyana, after they were unable to travel for a period.

On Thursday, the News Room reported that Guyanese who are partially vaccinated – that is, they have only received one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine – have been unable to travel back from the United States of America (USA) because the local health authorities now require incoming passengers to be fully vaccinated.

The fully vaccinated requirement was published in the Official Gazette as part of updated COVID-19 guidelines. These guidelines took effect from November 1.

According to a document prepared by Dr. Singh and seen by the News Room, partially vaccinated Guyanese who departed Guyana on or before October 31, 2021, and will return to Guyana on or before November 30, 2021, are now exempted from the “fully vaccinated” requirement.

This would allow those Guyanese who have been unable to travel home because they only received one dose of a vaccine, to return. It also negates the need for those individuals to get revaccinated.
