Daniel Roopchand, a Queen’s College student, is among the top performers at this year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE). Roopchand scored 10 Grade One passes and one Grade Two pass.

Other top performers include Queen’s College student Samuel Haynes who scored nine Grade One passes and Bhedesh Persaud, another Queen’s College student, who scored eight Grade One passes and one Grade Two pass.

Other top performers include students from the Sarswattie Vidya Niketan school and the St. Stanislaus College. The News Room will update this story with that information.

The results were announced by Minister of Education Priya Manickchand on Friday at the National Centre for Educational Research and Development (NCERD) in Kingston, Georgetown.

It is important to note that the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is still engaging in a review process, so Manickchand cautioned that students’ results may change.

Earlier at the forum, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Dr. Marcel Hutson noted that some 723 candidates wrote CAPE from 15 secondary schools and private centres across Guyana. Those candidates managed 3,083 subject entries.

The overall pass rate for CAPE, this year, was 90.86 per cent.

It was earlier announced that the performance of Guyana’s CAPE students was marginally higher than the rest of the region. In Guyana, 88 per cent of the CAPE candidates attained acceptable Grades One to Five passes as opposed to the Caribbean’s 87 per cent pass rate.
