Rehabilitating deplorable Laluni, Kuru Kururu access road a priority in 2022 Budget

The access road to the agricultural community of Laluni which runs through Kuru Kururu on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway will soon benefit from long-promised rehabilitation.

The News Room visited the area on Tuesday and the road was almost impassable with a series of swallowing potholes for small and low-lying vehicles.

Reminded of a September 2021 promise to resurface and upgrade the stretch of road, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill has confirmed that the road is a priority in the 2022 budget.

“We are busy doing budget and programming. All of those roads have already been looked at. Once we get financing from the budget we will be proceeding.

“It is a priority road,” Edghill told the News Room via telephone on Wednesday.

He noted briefly that once funds are available, the budget will allow for the rehabilitation of a series of community roads all across the country.

With specific reference to this road, Minister Edghill did not reveal the sums to be allocated and the extent of work to be undertaken. Those details are still being finalised.

Residents aback Kuru Kururu in Laluni had noted the difficulty in getting their produce to the market.

Edghill had previously said that the government will not be able to immediately construct an all-weather asphaltic road because of the availability of funds.

He had promised that the relief will see “some sectional maintenance” after an agreement on “what are the bad spots.”
