President Ali, Bolsonaro to sign agreement during official visit

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro is slated to arrive in Guyana on Friday for an official visit at the invitation of President Dr Irfaan Ali during which the two Heads of State are expected to sign an agreement.

Discussions will also be held on a range of issues of bilateral interest, as well as developments at the regional and global levels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the two countries share a broad bilateral agenda, covering issues such as infrastructure development, energy cooperation, trade and investment, health, agriculture, and defence and security cooperation, and these will be among the issues to be addressed by the two Heads of State in Georgetown.

Bolsonaro was scheduled to visit Guyana in January this year but cancelled the visit at the last minute following the sudden death of his mother.

Guyana and Brazil established diplomatic relations in August of 1968 and enjoy strong ties of friendship and cooperation.
