Police are investigating the death of an ex-convict whose body was found with apparent chop wounds at an empty plot of land at No. 55 Village, East Berbice Corentyne on Tuesday morning.

The man has been identified as 22-year-old Akash Pechia of No.50 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

Residents made the discovery at around 07:00hrs and noticed chop wounds to his neck and wrists. They immediately contacted the police.

Meanwhile, at the scene, Diane Pechia, the cousin of the dead man, said the last time she saw him was three days ago at his house.

She disclosed that Pechia served time in prison for the offence of larceny and theft and was released some three weeks ago.

Following his release, he worked as a labourer around the village and neighbouring communities.

The News Room was informed by a resident that he last saw Pechia alive at the No.50 bus shed at around 15:30 hrs on Monday.
