After a two-year hiatus, the Miss Jamzone pageant is officially off to a solid return with eight delegates sashed Wednesday evening.

The event was held at the Hermandston Lodge in Georgetown. Next up, the delegates will compete in the swimsuit competition on July 31 at the Kingston beachfront.

“We are very proud of who we accepted [to compete] and the growth they have made over the last couple of weeks.”

“These young ladies have risen above whatever has come their way and they are here tonight and we certainly wish them all the best,” said Wasim Khan, director of the pageant.

Prior to being officially sashed, the delegates were trained in every area including modelling techniques, public speaking and diet and fitness.

The coronation will take place on August 13 at the National Cultural Centre where the delegates will compete for the crown in the national costume, talent costume and swimwear segments.

“Jamzone as you know started over water [the first pageant was at Splashmins resort] and we should have known that it would have been a different pageant and we intend to keep that momentum,” Khan said. The different segments will see the delegates work very closely with local designers to “wow” the audience, he elaborated.

This pageant has promoted Guyana’s tourism over the years and this year is no different. Kerwin Bollers, the co-owner of Hits & Jam, said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was skepticism as to how this year’s event would play out. Nevertheless, the pageant has returned and with hopes of having the winner participate in regional pageants.

“Next year you can expect it to be even bigger and even better, we want to have our queens represent in other pageants across the Caribbean with similar types of platforms and stuff like that,” Bollers said.

Meanwhile Rawle Ferguson, also co-owner of Hits & Jam, said he is proud that the team was able to orchestrate this year’s pageant after the hiatus.

This year’s contestants will focus heavily on tourism with each delegate representing the townships. The queen will walk away with a motor car while the first and second runner-ups will receive $500,000 and $250,000 respectively.

Early bird tickets for the Jamzone Beach day cost $2000 and are now available at HJ Box Office, That Look Boutique, StoveTop Restaurant, Fireside Grill N Chill, Exclusive Styles, Shop and Save and White Castle Fish Shop.

    The contestants are:
