Residents of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) who suffer from kidney failure and are required to undergo dialysis for survival can now access this service at the Suddie Public Hospital.

A Dialysis Center was commissioned on Monday by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with 5G Dialysis in the hospital compound.

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony said that the center is a significant boost for the delivery of healthcare in the region and welcomed the partnership with 5G Dialysis to ensure that the service is decentralised.

Patients who were onced required to travel to Georgetown for the treatment will save thousands of dollars and time now that the center was opened in Region Two.

The patients will also be provided a one-off grant of $600, 000 each year to assist them financially. Dr Anthony said that persons who reside in Region Two will be trained to work at the Dialysis Centre and more awareness will be conducted with diabetic patients.

Meanwhile, the Director of 5G Dialysis Asafo George told the gathering that he is happy to partner with the Ministry of Health.

Regional Health Officer Dr Ranjeev echoed sentiments that the establishment will ease the financial burden of patients.
