Christianburg Wismar Secondary continued to rack up school football titles as they comfortably won the GuyOil/Tradewind Tankers Under-18 School League with a 3-1 victory over Golden Grove Secondary at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, on Sunday evening.

A draw would have been good enough for the Linden unit to carry home the trophy after seven weeks of competitive action but they still flexed their muscle to enhance their tag as one of the superior school football units in Guyana.

They lost just one of their seven matches in the League.

Captain Kevlin Hintzen, who was deemed the Most Valuable Player in the League, opened the scoring for the Region Ten outfit in the seventh minute.

The roller coaster of action continued with the East Coast Demerara side in search of an equalizer but to no avail as Demoll Warner struck another nail into the coffin with his conversion in the 34th.

Two-up at the half, the Linden unit was bossing the field and it quickly became 3-0 when Lemar Jules converted his penalty in the 68th before he got a red card.

Some respite came for Golden Grove as they managed to pull one back off the feet of Omarion Burrowes in the 69th.

Both teams have booked their ticket to the KFC Invitational tournament, also coordinated by the Petra Organisation.

That tournament will feature the champion team from Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, along with two hinterland teams from Guyana in mid-December.

Meanwhile, in the other deciding match as it regards the final point standings, Cummings Lodge and President’s College played to a 1-1 draw.

Fabian Figueria scored for Cummings Lodge in the 37th while the equalizer came off the heel of Michael Joseph in the 61st.

The result meant President’s College finished third on the standings while Cummings Lodge remained in fifth of the eight teams, with Dolphin Secondary in fourth.

The first place prize was G$500,0000 while second to fourth received G$300,000, G$200,000 and $100,000 respectively, all of which goes towards a school project.

The other individual prize winners included Javon Cole of Dolphin Secondary (Most Goals – 10) and Jamel James of Christianburg (Best Goalkeeper), and they all received vouchers compliments of MVP Sports.
